HOPES PicThe motivation behind the launch of H.O.P.E.S. (Helping Our People Encourage Survivors) was more than just a way to recognize October’s Cancer Awareness Month. For SDFU and its staff, it was a way to reach out to members and show them that that they are not alone during their fight.”In the course of a week I talked to multiple members who had recently been diagnosed with cancer,” explains Pam Evenson, SDFU Membership Director. “I thought ‘what can SDFU do to help them in this fight?’. I’ve had multiple loved ones who have been through cancer and I realize how important it is to show them that they aren’t alone.”With Evenson’s idea in mind, SDFU launched H.O.P.E.S., by creating cancer care totes for members, friends and loved ones undergoing cancer treatment.More about H.O.P.E.S.H.O.P.E.S. cancer care totes include: a fleece blanket made by SDFU summer campers, hand sanitizers, tissues, pens, activity books and various other items.
