Membership with South Dakota Farmers Union means being part of a leading organization which is fighting for the needs of farmers, ranchers, and small rural communities both in Washington, D.C. and in Pierre. Through South Dakota Farmers Union, your voice can be heard. We are a voice for agriculture, fighting for issues such as healthcare, commodity prices, the Farm Bill, ethanol and much more.
Are you a young farmer or rancher trying to get established during a time when input prices are high and commodity prices are low? South Dakota Farmers Union offers help through the Young Producer program, which provides seminars and networking for young agriculture families across the state.
Looking for opportunities to learn about leadership which will help keep your local coop or community alive? South Dakota Farmers Union offers REAL (Rural Economic And Leadership) classes during winter months (Jan-Mar) that will boost your confidence in stepping up and out as a leader.
Members’ children also benefit from challenging leadership programs that stair-step throughout high school and provide opportunities for students to learn skills that will help them throughout life. In addition, high school education programs take students on trips to Pierre during the legislative session to learn about state government, to coops in Minnesota to learn about cooperative models, and to national camps and conferences.
In addition, membership provides other perks such as tickets to the South Dakota State Fair on Farmers Union Day, discounts on hotels and auto rentals, free registration to Women In Blue Jeans Conference in Mitchell, SD and much, much more.
