"Know Your Next Governor" Forum Scheduled Sept. 4 at State Fair
Gubernatorial candidates Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard and Sen. Scott Heidepriem have agreed to participate in the ‘Know Your Next Governor’ forum at the South Dakota State Fair Saturday, September 4, 2010. The forum is sponsored by South Dakota Farmers Union, and will be held during Farmers Union Day at the fair. The forum will take place on the State Fair’s Freedom Stage from 1:00-2:30 p.m.
“We’re honored that both of these fine candidates have agreed to talk about the issues and take questions from the voters who will choose between them,” said SDFU President Doug Sombke. “It’s such a critical time for agriculture and our state as a whole. This forum will be a chance for the voting public to hear from the two men vying for the state’s top job, and to have a chance to ask them their own questions. Farmers Union is based on education, and we believe this forum will help the public be well informed when they get to the voting booth.”
The event will not be a typical debate style format, but rather a conversation between the candidates and the public attending. There will be time limits on the candidates, but they’ll each have several minutes to answer each question.
The forum will feature questions from the moderator as well as from the audience. The public is encouraged to attend, and will be provided with note cards to write their questions on. A panel will read the questions before giving them to the moderator. The forum will focus mostly on issues facing rural South Dakota and agriculture, but other topics may be discussed. Paul Guggenheimer, host of the Dakota Midday radio program on South Dakota Public Broadcasting, will moderate the forum.
