Maher, Burg Named 2009 Legislators of the Year

South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) has named Sen. Ryan Maher (D-District 28) of Isabel, and Rep. Quinten Burg (D-District 22) of Wessington Springs as the organization’s legislators of the year. The two lawmakers were presented with the awards during South Dakota Farmers Union’s annual Legislative Day at the State Capitol in Pierre January 26.

Sumption Testifies Against Senate Bill 1

A member of the South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) Board of Directors testified before the Senate Transportation Committee Wednesday, January 27, at the State Capitol in opposition to Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), a measure which would increase the state gas tax 6 cents per gallon and increase certain vehicle licensing fees anywhere from $5 to $55 per vehicle.

SDFU Holds Annual Legislative Day at Capitol

South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) held the organization’s annual Legislative Day at the State Capitol in Pierre January 26, 2010. Unfortunately, the inclement weather in the days prior kept several members from attending the day, but SDFU still had a few who were able to talk with lawmakers about issues facing family farmers and ranchers.

SDFU Legislative Day Set for January 26th at Pierre

South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) members from across the state will gather at the State Capitol in Pierre, S.D., Tuesday, January 26, 2010, for the annual SDFU Legislative Day. It's a chance for SDFU members to witness the process their lawmakers go through during the legislative session, and it gives them an opportunity to talk with their elected representatives about the issues that are important to them.

SDFU Foundation Scholarship Applications Being Accepted

January 10, 2010

For the third straight year, 25 South Dakota high school seniors will share $25,000 in scholarships from Farmers Union Insurance, in cooperation with the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation. The 25 high school seniors will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. They will be given to those who plan on pursuing a post-secondary education at a college, university, or technical school in the state of South Dakota. The scholarships are funded with support from Farmers Union Insurance agents in South Dakota and the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation. The application deadline is April 15, 2010. Application forms are available from school counselors, local Farmers Union Insurance Agents, or at www.sdfufoundation.org

2009 Scholarship Recipients

SDFU County Councilors Pass Climate Change Resolution

SDFU County Councilors Call on EPA to Up Ethanol Blend Wall
