South Dakota’s conservation and agricultural leaders will join together here on April 29 to discuss the need to tie federal farm payments to conservation practices that protect the state’s water, soils and wildlife habitat.
A bill introduced today by South Dakota Rep. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., would give much-needed protection to livestock producers who become victims of natural disaster. That’s according to South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke who says the Livestock Disaster Protection Act would provide adequate protection to producers through consistent federal funding in the next farm bill.
The FFA chapter from Brookings High School was the top scoring team during the semifinal round of the fourth annual ‘Team up to Safety’ quiz bowl competition held Monday, April 15, at Brookings. The quiz bowl, sponsored by South Dakota Farmers Union, was held in conjunction with the state FFA convention held on the campus of South Dakota State University.
National Farmers Union (NFU) President Roger Johnson and a delegation of Farmers Union leaders will represent NFU in Niigata, Japan on April 15-18 for the World Farmers Organisation’s (WFO) third annual general assembly.
