District III & VII Farmers Union Camp Draws 99 Youth Participants

Drawing one of the largest number of kids ever to a District Farmers Union camp, young people harnessed the power of working together and learned to lead by serving their communities during the annual District III & VII Farmers Union Camp held July 11th to July 14th  at Lake Richmond in Aberdeen, SD.  Children ages 6-13 from Clark, Day, Deuel, Grant, Kingsbury, Lake, Marshall, Beadle, Brown, Edmunds, Faulk, Hand, Hughes, Hyde, McPherson, Spink, and Yellow River (MN) counties participated in this year’s camp. 99 campers attended this year's camp, one of the largest participation numbers ever.

SDFU Praises "Fueling Freedom" Plan Announced by Ethanol Producers

South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) President Doug Sombke today praised a newly released plan by ethanol advocacy group Growth Energy which would gradually end tax subsidies on ethanol and grow much needed renewable fuels infrastructure in the United States. The plan named “Fueling Freedom,” calls for the redefinition of the current ethanol tax credits, while redirecting money to fund infrastructure to get more ethanol to market through pipelines, ethanol blender pumps, and the production of Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) that can run on high blends of ethanol.

U.S. Senate to Consider Estate Tax Code Solutions

SDFU President Commends Rep. Herseth Sandlin on the Introduction of Biofuels Legislation

South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) President Doug Sombke today commended Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.) on the introduction of two important pieces of legislation that would enhance the future of biofuels in the United States. Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin this week introduced the Consumer Vehicle Choice Act of 2010 (H.R. 5633) which would increase the number of Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) on the road, and the Consumer Fuels Choice Act of 2010 (H.R. 5632) which would provide grants to offset the cost of installing an ethanol blender pump.
