The United States Treasury Department has awarded South Dakota Wind Partners, LLC, a $6.3 million grant to offset some constructions costs which may lead to larger payments to investors in the Crow Lake Wind Project.
South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) President Doug Sombke and a group of other leaders from South Dakota and across the country will travel to Germany and Austria August 21-27, 2011 to participate in the Renewables and Rural Energy Opportunities Study Tour organized by Ecologic Institute and the Atlantic Council of the United States. State Sen. Jason Frerichs of Wilmot, S.D., and East River Electric Power Cooperative General Manager Jeff Nelson of Madison, S.D., are the other South Dakotans accompany Sombke on the trip which will include about 15 participants from the U.S. A representative from National Farmers Union and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union will also attend.
The FFA chapter from Wolsey-Wessington High School captured the second annual ‘Team up to Safety’ farm safety quiz bowl competition finals championship during the DakotaFest Farm Show today in Mitchell. Wolsey-Wessington defeated the FFA chapter from Tri-Valley in the championship 180-120 to earn the top honors. During the quiz bowl competition participants answer questions related safety, health and emergencies on the farm or ranch. The quiz bowl is sponsored by South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU).
