The South Dakota MarketPlace business conference wrapped up Wednesday after two straight days of idea sharing and networking for small businesses focused on economic development in South Dakota. The conference, presented by South Dakota Farmers Union and the Center for Rural Affairs based in Nebraska, featured several keynote addresses including First PREMIER Bank CEO Dana Dykhouse and South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Walt Bones. Dr. Connie Reimers-Hild and Craig Schroeder also presented keynote addresses. Nearly 200 people from across the state attended the event.

South Dakota Farmers Union will break ground on a new state office building Thursday, Oct. 4, next to the family farm organization’s current state office at 1410 Dakota Avenue South in Huron. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke, Farmers Union President Emeritus Ben Radcliffe, who served as president of the state organization for 20 years, and USDA Rural Development State Director Elsie Meeks will be the featured speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony.
