The 2nd annual meeting of the South Dakota Wind Energy Association was held Tuesday, November 30, at Mitchell Technical Institute. A number of well known experts in the wind energy industry, state government, and economics led discussions and talked about the future of the industry in South Dakota.
South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) has sent the organization’s official comments to the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) on competition in the livestock market. GIPSA has proposed rules that will make for a more fair market for livestock producers and their products.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has again delayed the expected approval of an E15 (15% ethanol) blend of fuel for use in model year vehicles 2001-2006. Last month, the EPA granted a waiver for E15 for use in 2007 and newer vehicles.
Former South Dakota Farmers Union President Ben Radcliffe has published a new book entitled 'And That's the Way it Was' (Robertson Publishing). It's an autobiography about the life of the man who served as SDFU president, as a state lawmaker, farmer, and tireless public servant. Radcliffe is also in the South Dakota Hall of Fame. He will turn 95 years-old next month.
The South Dakota Farmers Union's Junior Rural Economic And Leadership (Jr. REAL) Development Program has visited four rural schools so far this fall, and next week the final four schools will take part in this important program.
