Renewable Energy Compromise to Reduce Deficit, Continue Biofuels Investment

South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) President Doug Sombke says the proposal to end the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit (VEETC) and tariff and extend other ethanol tax credits will begin to level the playing field between oil and ethanol. The compromise was announced Thursday by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

German farmer and businessman Dirk Ketelsen will be a featured speaker during the Renewable Energy Tour in Milbank, S.D., Monday, June 27. The tour will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Midwest Dairy Institute (48051 153rd St.) near Milbank. The public is invited to take a tour o the Institute's anaerobic methane digester which captures reneable energy to run parts of its facility.

Farmers Union Feeds Hundreds at High School Rodeo Finals

Hundreds of South Dakota High School Rodeo Association state finalists and their families were treated to a free dinner Thursday, June 23, the opening night of the state high school rodeo finals in Belle Fourche. The dinner was held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lion’s shelter at the entrance to the rodeo grounds and was sponsored by South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU).
