Bill Forum part of Turner County Fair activities
HURON
- The South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) will
hold a public meeting on Monday, August 14
at 5:30 PM at the Turner County Fair's Show
Ring in Parker, SD. Producers are invited
to share their thoughts on the upcoming 2007
Farm Bill. SDFU Government Relations Director
Matthew McLarty will lead the discussion,
and representatives from the South Dakota
congressional delegation will be on-hand.
The comments will be tape recorded and sent
to members of Congress.
"It
is important for members of Congress to hear
first-hand from South Dakota producers because
they are the ones who will be affected by
this legislation," South Dakota Farmers
Union President Doug Sombke said. "Not
every farmer and rancher has the time and
resources to visit directly with members of
Congress in Washington, D.C., so we wanted
to provide an opportunity to make their voices
heard here in South Dakota."
Producers
will also have a chance to give their input
during the Brown County Fair on Saturday,
August 19, 10 AM at Ken's Family Tent. The
final chance to be part of the process will
be on Saturday, September 2 at 1 PM on the
Freedom Stage at the South Dakota State Fair
in Huron.
"The
next farm bill is crucial to the future of
rural South Dakota. Issues such as trade,
renewable fuels, and the drought are at the
front of the debate. Farmers must stand up
and let their voices be heard on these issues."
Sombke stated. Hansen Farmers Union Insurance
will be sponsoring the event and serving refreshments.
