SDFU Delegates Selected to National Convention

Huron - The South Dakota Farmers Union membership selected Mitch Fargan of Flandreau, Lisa Scott of Howes and Bob Weber from Clear Lake to be their voice at the National Convention to be held March 2-5 in Orlando, Fla. They will discuss policy and vote on behalf of the South Dakota Farmers Union membership.

"All three individuals bring diverse life experience in agriculture and will do an excellent job representing SDFU at the national level." SDFU President Doug Sombke stated.

Mitch Fargen is from Flandreau and is currently the Moody County FU President. He considers himself a life long learner and advocate of family agriculture. He is currently enrolled in South Dakota State University with a double major in Political Science and Agricultural Economics.

Lisa Scott is the fourth generation in her family who is ranching near Howes. She has been an active participant in the organization throughout her life and is currently the Education Director for Meade County. When asked why she decided to be a delegate Scott said, "this was the next logical step in developing my leadership skills and show the children I educate the importance of being involved in something that you believe in." She is currently enrolled in South Dakota State University – West River Campus majoring in Nursing.

Bob Weber is a longtime state legislator from Clear Lake. He has been a strong advocate of family farms.

Delegates will participate in workshops and listen to speakers throughout the convention. A featured presenter will be Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. Other scheduled speakers include House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson, USDA Under Secretary for Rural Development Tom Dorr, and Chairman of the Chicago Climate Exchange, Richard Sander.
