SDFU Delegates Selected to
National Convention
Huron - The South Dakota Farmers Union
membership selected Mitch Fargan of Flandreau,
Lisa Scott of Howes and Bob Weber from Clear
Lake to be their voice at the National
Convention to be held March 2-5 in Orlando,
Fla. They will discuss policy and vote on
behalf of the South Dakota Farmers Union
membership.
"All three individuals bring diverse
life experience in agriculture and will do an
excellent job representing SDFU at the
national level." SDFU President Doug
Sombke stated.
Mitch Fargen is from Flandreau and is
currently the Moody County FU President. He
considers himself a life long learner and
advocate of family agriculture. He is
currently enrolled in South Dakota State
University with a double major in Political
Science and Agricultural Economics.
Lisa Scott is the fourth generation in her
family who is ranching near Howes. She has
been an active participant in the organization
throughout her life and is currently the
Education Director for Meade County. When
asked why she decided to be a delegate Scott
said, "this was the next logical step in
developing my leadership skills and show the
children I educate the importance of being
involved in something that you believe
in." She is currently enrolled in South
Dakota State University – West River Campus
majoring in Nursing.
Bob Weber is a longtime state legislator
from Clear Lake. He has been a strong advocate
of family farms.
Delegates will participate in workshops and
listen to speakers throughout the convention.
A featured presenter will be Speaker of
the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy
Pelosi. Other scheduled speakers include
House Agriculture Committee Chairman
Collin Peterson, USDA Under
Secretary for Rural Development Tom Dorr,
and Chairman of the Chicago Climate
Exchange, Richard Sander. |
