Carbon Credit
informational meetings to be held in four
locations on April 26
The South Dakota Farmers Union will hold
informational meetings on a new program offering
farmers and ranchers an additional income option
through "carbon sequestration".
The Carbon Credit Program informational
meetings will be held on April 26th
at the following locations and times:
Hansen Farmers Union Insurance Agency
Office in Irene at 10 a.m.
Old Style Café in Centerville at 1:30
p.m.
Extension Building in Vermillion at
4:30 p.m.
Frying Pan Restaurant in Yankton at
6:30 p.m.
The Carbon Credit Program was developed in
conjunction with the North Dakota Farmers Union
and would pay farmers and ranchers for
continuing or beginning certain soil
conservation practices including no-till crop
production, native rangeland and long-term grass
seeding.
"This is an opportunity to take advantage of
farming practices that farmers may already be
doing," Farmers Union President Doug Sombke
said. "I strongly urge every producer and land
owner to take a look at the program. It’s an
opportunity to receive added income and every
producer needs that."
The meeting is sponsored by the Hansen
Farmers Union Insurance Agency and the South
Dakota Farmers Union. For more information
