Agriculture has changed dramatically over the last century. Advances in technology and machinery, and scientific advances in crop growth and protection have allowed productivity to expand and made many aspects of farming safer and easier.
Along with the benefits of modern day farming come new challenges. Farmers and ranchers work hard every day to be good stewards of the land. They have a vested interest in protecting their land and livestock. South Dakota Farmers Union is an important partner in the state in promoting advances in sustainable farming, renewable energy production, and alternative or organic farming.
We’re working to enhance traditional agriculture methods, while supporting these new potential revenue streams and markets provided by green energy, including ethanol, biodiesel, and wind energy. South Dakota Farmers Union is a founding member of the South Dakota Wind Energy Association, and is also a founding member of the South Dakota Wind Partners, LLC. We work closely with the state’s ethanol producers and ethanol advocacy groups to find new ways to grow our rural economy, create jobs, and protect our environment.
