Former SDFU President Ben Radcliffe Publishes 'And That's the Way it Was'
Former South Dakota Farmers Union President Ben Radcliffe has published a new book entitled 'And That's the Way it Was' (Robertson Publishing). It's an autobiography about the life of the man who served as SDFU president, as a state lawmaker, farmer, and tireless public servant. Radcliffe is also in the South Dakota Hall of Fame. He will turn 95 years-old next month.
The book is a series of stories starting from Ben's first memory of riding in a horse drawn buggy with his mother to the voting booth when he was just four years old in 1920, the first year women were allowed to vote in this country. Radcliffe also discusses the rise of Farmers Union, legislative efforts in Pierre and Washington, and the beginning of the cooperative movement in rural America.
Radcliffe plans to hold a Dutch Brunch and book signing on December 5th at the Crossroads in Huron. He also plans to sign and sell books at the SDFU State Convention in Aberdeen February 11-12, 2011.
