SDFU Seeks Applicants for Summer Staff to Facilitate Youth Camps
South Dakota Farmers Union is looking for outgoing and energetic young people to serve as summer interns for the 2011 youth camp season.
These paid summer interns will help plan and facilitate youth camps for kids ages 6-18 during the summer of 2011. They will be involved in organizing games, activities and teaching at summer camps around the state. There is an emphasis on cooperative education and agriculture. They will help coordinate, implement and conduct county, district and state camps which includes marketing, promotion and follow up. Conducting camps includes recreational activities, crafts, and sometimes music and plays. A Farmers Union or agriculture background or membership is helpful, but not required. This position applies to students interested in agriculture, education majors, and child development majors, however it is not limited to those interests. SDFU will work with the intern's college or university on applying college credit for this internship.
Summer interns must be 19 years old to be eligible for employment. Statewide travel is required with a company vehicle and any expenses incurred while on the road will be covered. A valid driver's license and safe driving record are required. A desire to work with young people and volunteers, ability to teach simple lesson plans, lead others, and the ability to be creative is helpful. Interns will be under direct supervision of the State Education Director and will perform various office duties (computer, mass mailings, phone calls) necessary to run the Youth Camping Program. Interns must be available to start the middle of May, and the internship will last through late August with specific dates to be determined. Housing in Huron will be provided by Farmers Union if needed.
