South Dakota Farmers Union was a founding member of SDWP, and contributed seed money to the project.
Industry and government leaders are set to address hundreds of wind industry attendees during the inaugural Midwest Wind Summit & Expo October 4-6, 2010 in Brookings, S.D. The event will be headlined by Cascadia Capital Chairman and CEO, Michael Butler, who will provide a keynote address focusing on energy policy and future demand for transmission. These two key issues will set the foundation for more investment, new financing and M&A in the industry. Many nationally known experts will also speak during the three day event, and it will also include a tour of a wind farm, breakout sessions, and other activities.

Over two dozen South Dakotans traveled to Washington for the National Farmers Union’s annual Fall Fly-In held September 13-15.
During a meeting Wednesday, September 15, in Washington, U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) was awarded the 2010 Golden Triangle Award from the National Farmers Union (NFU), recognizing his commitment to issues affecting family farmers in South Dakota. The award is the highest honor for government service given by the organization.
About two dozen Farmers Union members from across the state of South Dakota will travel to Washington, D.C., next week to attend the annual National Farmers Union Fly-In. Four outstanding South Dakotans were honored Saturday, September 4, as recipients of the 2010 Rural Dakota Pride Award from the South Dakota Farmers Union (SDFU) Foundation. A ceremony was held on the Freedom Stage during Farmers Union Day at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron. The Rural Dakota Pride Award program was established through the SDFU Foundation three years ago with the awards designed to recognize individuals who have made a difference through volunteer efforts in their local communities.
Farmers Union Insurance, along with the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation, honored the outstanding recipients of the 3rd Annual "Insuring a Brighter Tomorrow" scholarships. 25 high school seniors will share $25,000 in scholarships to South Dakota universities, colleges or technical schools. The scholarship program is funded by Farmers Union Insurance agents across the state of South Dakota. A ceremony was held during Farmers Union Day at the South Dakota State Fair.
The two men vying for the job of South Dakota governor squared off today at the ‘Know Your Next Governor Forum’ sponsored by South Dakota Farmers Union at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron, S.D. Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard (R-Garretson) and Sen. Scott Heidepriem (D-Sioux Falls) took questions from the audience about the future of agriculture, rural communities, renewable energy, the future of the State Fair and other topics. About 500 people crowded around the Freedom Stage at the fair to listen to the candidates discuss the issues.
